To the editor:
Regarding the Monday, July 5 Viewpoint column by Deroy Murdock ("Up against it: Edison's light bulb dims as freedom flickers"):
I strongly agree with Murdock about the superiority of incandescent bulbs.
In addition, unlike fluorescent bulbs, warming incandescent ones, used indoors, save energy.
The heat from the latter raises the temperature of a room two or three degrees, and when installed in a chair-side lamp, warm the sitter at least several degrees more, even when it's the only light in the room.
This considerably reduces the need for central heat using oil or gas.
