PEABODY — A West Peabody resident is being nominated to fill a judicial vacancy on the Essex County Probate and Family Court.

Attorney Amy L. Blake, a partner at the Boston firm Casner & Edwards, was one of four appointments made by Gov. Deval Patrick this week. The governor named Blake to replace retiring Judge Edward J. Rockett.

In a statement, Patrick said he knew Blake and his other nominees would "make enormous contributions to the critical work of that court."

Until she's confirmed by the Governor's Council, Blake deferred questions about her appointment to the Judicial Nominating Commission.

She is a graduate of the University of Rochester and the New England School of Law. Prior to going into private practice, the West Peabody attorney worked in the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office from 1992 to 1994.

Retired family court Judge Edward M. Ginsburg spoke highly of Blake. Since 2002, she has volunteered for his Senior Partners for Justice initiative, which helps self-represented litigants with their cases.

"She's not only a very able attorney, but she's got a huge heart," Ginsburg said. "In spite of the fact she works hard to raise her family, she volunteers for Seniors over and over again."

The retired judge said Blake works hard on her cases and makes the best of everything.
