DANVERS — The busy intersection of Poplar and Locust streets turned into a crime scene yesterday after a motorist and his passenger attacked another driver.
The 17-year-old victim, who was found by police on the ground at 2:55 p.m., was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital. Police found the unidentified victim bloodied with numerous cuts and abrasions to his head and back.
The two cars were stopped and were not involved in a crash when the fight happened. What started the fight is not known.
Police Capt. Edmund Plamowski said "there is an indication they knew each other."
The two suspects fled the scene and were later caught and arrested a half-hour later. Police arrested the driver, Matthew Bouchard, 18, of 7 Riding Club Road, Danvers, and his passenger, Blake Storm, 18, of 3 Sycamore St., Danvers. Both are charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a shod foot) and assault and battery.
Both were being held at Middleton Jail last night on $2,500. They were scheduled to be arraigned today in Salem District Court.
Patrolman Justin Ellenton, who was working on a road detail on Pickering Street, spotted Storm and alerted police on scene. Bouchard was arrested on Locust Street near Riding Club Road.
Investigating the assault are Sgt. Timothy Zuch and Patrolmen Keith Chalmers, Graig Lebrun, Ashley Berube and Adam French.
