Salem State College recently presented Outstanding Educator Awards for 2008 to the following local residents:

r Linda Hatch of Danvers, who taught public school in the Lincoln-Thomson Elementary School in Lynn for 35 years, where she is involved with the Parent Teacher Association and the school's library committee.

r Pharnal Longus, posthumously, a former Salem resident and professor of social work at Salem State who continued to teach part time after his retirement in 2002. Longus also developed programs in the community including the Institute on UnDoing Racism.

Yvonne Vissing, a professor at Salem State College, was presented with the Sociologist of the Year Award at the recent spring conference of the New England Sociological Association.
