Harry and Cheryl Fry, of West Newbury, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Tara Lyn Fry to Asaad Andrew Faquir, son of Hamid and Mary Faquir, of West Palm Beach, Fla.
Tara is a graduate of the University of Miami, in Florida where she received a Bachelors in Economics.
Asaad is a graduate of Florida State University where he received a BS in Finance, Temple University where he received a MBA in Finance, and the University of Limerick (Ireland) where he received a MBS in Human Resource Management.
"Kick, Push, Kick, Push, coast..." Those were the messages Asaad would send every evening as he was leaving work and getting ready to meet Tara at his house to give Longboard skateboarding a try. They had mutual friends who introduced them to longboarding and they would meet during the week after work, and sometimes on weekend afternoons, to board around the neighborhood or other parts of Palm Beach County, Fla. Boarding turned into boarding and yoga, yoga turned into yoga and dinner, dinner turned into day trips and by May of 2007, day trips turned into weekend excursions and a relationship, but come August everything would change.
Asaad had already accepted the opportunity to serve as an Ambassadorial Scholar on behalf of Rotary International and on August 29, 2007 he flew to Ireland and has been living there for the past nine months. Tara on the other hand, decided to move back to Ma. and take a job within the family business.
However as the saying goes, "Love conquers all" and with help from BlackBerry's Web Cams, and some very understanding parents and employers, the distance didn't seem to matter. The next nine months would have Tara and Asaad meeting almost monthly in Ireland, be it Dublin or Limerick, and even going to London and Paris for New Years.
The most recent trip had them meeting in Dublin, where they then drove to Belfast to enjoy the North Antrim Coast and the Giants Causeway. Asaad knew she wasn't expecting a proposal so at one particularly scenic view, he decided to stop and take pictures and while she was distracted, he got on one knee and asked if she would marry him. Without hesitation, she said yes. And that was that, two days later she was back on a plane to the U.S.
So after a full year together, nine months of which they were separated by an ocean, they are closer than ever. They are thrilled to be engaged and excited about the prospect of starting their new life together without an ocean between them.
A June 19, 2009 wedding is planned.
