Miss Katherine Andrea Cashman was married on Friday evening, Nov. 30, 2007 to Mr. Andrew John Smethurst. The marriage was performed at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem by Justice of the Peace Mr. Joseph Gagnon. As is the Australian custom well wishers hung handmade good luck charms on the bride's wrist as she and the groom walked down the aisle as a newly married couple.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Joseph Cashman of Marblehead. Her grandparents are Mrs. David W. Brown of Kennebunk, Maine and the late Mr. Brown, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer L. Cashman of Nahant.
Mr. Smethurst is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald J. Smethurst of Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Smethurst of Drouin, Victoria, Australia and the late Mr. and Mrs. Afonik Szczepanski of Newport, Victoria, Australia.
Mrs. Smethurst wore a strapless white satin ball gown with pick-up skirt and beaded metallic embroidery on the bodice along with a single tier cathedral length veil with beaded metallic edging. She carried a bouquet of red roses.
The bride's twin sister, Miss Kristin Cashman served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Meaghan Cashman and Miss Micaela Cashman, sisters of the bride, Miss Laura Smethurst, sister of the groom, and Miss Alexis Kirkwood. The bridesmaids wore apple red strapless ball gowns with pick-up detailing on the skirt and a sash at the waist.
Mr. Smethurst's best man was Mr. Aaron Green. Groomsmen were Mr. Chris Hill, Mr. Edward Tennant, and Mr. Scott Moran. Mr. Andrew Burkholder and Mr. Ian McLaughlin served as ushers.
Mrs. Smethurst is a graduate of Elon University and is currently employed as an Assessment and Administration Coordinator at Photography Studies College in Southbank, Victoria, Australia. Mr. Smethurst graduated from Melbourne Institute of Technology and is currently employed as a chemist by Huntsman Performance Products in Brooklyn, Victoria, Australia.
The couple honeymooned in Fiji and is now residing in Preston, Victoria, Australia.
