SALISBURY — Plans are being finalized for the 4th of July Sand Sculpting Spectacular at the Beach Center.
Organized by the Salisbury Beach Partnership and the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, the show runs from Friday to Sunday with family fun, two concerts, professional sand-sculpting demonstrations and a fireworks display launched on Independence Day at 10 p.m.
All weekend professionals from Fitzy Snowman Sand Sculptors — recently featured on ABC's "Good Morning America" — will build whimsical sand creations with 12 tons of sand and lead activities for kids on Salisbury Beach.
Sand-sculpting displays and events run all three days from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. along the Broadway mall.
Visitors can enjoy the beach, surf and other beach attractions, including the 50-foot carousel offering rides until 10:30 p.m.
On Friday, the Fat City Band will perform free at the Beach Front Stage at the top of Broadway. The six-piece band has a sound that's a mix of rock, jazz, rhythm and blues, swing and jump blues. The Fat City Band has been performing for more than 20 years throughout Boston and New England.
On Saturday, the Bruce Marshall Group performs live at the Beach Front Stage, as the second in the 11-week free Saturday night SurfSide Live concert series.
The fireworks display will be launched from a barge off Salisbury Beach Center Saturday at 10 p.m., after the Bruce Marshall Group performs.
The Sand Sculpting Spectacular is the second in this year's three beach festivals presented by the Salisbury Beach Partnership, Inc. and the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce as part of the Salisbury Beach 2009 Summer Celebration.
The next weekend celebration is the Merrimack River Maritime Festival the weekend of July 25 and 26.
In addition to these special events, the partnership and Chamber hold Friday Night Beach Parties and Saturday night SurfSide Live Concert Series and fireworks through Sept. 5, weather permitting.
Most Salisbury Beach Summer Celebration events are free of charge.
