"Dressing A Colonial Lady," a Wednesday Evening Lecture at the Ipswich Historical Society on Wednesday, July 15, with Adam and Mary Spencer, will use a reproduction gown to demonstrate how ladies in the 17th century got dressed. The functions of bumrolls, stays and stomachers will be explained. The lecture is at 7:30 p.m. at Heard House, 54 S. Main St., Ipswich. The cost is $5, members free. Jazz piano legend Mose Allison has played with Stan Getz, Zoot Sims and Gerry Mulligan, and his songs have been covered by Van Morrison, The Who, Eric Clapton and Bonnie Raitt. He will appear Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Marblehead. With Bob Gullotti on drums and Paul del Nero on bass, tickets are $26 in advance, $28 at the door. Play ball

"The Big Three," a free three-on-three basketball tournament for boys and girls, will be held Wednesday, July 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the basketball courts at YMCA McPherson Center, 4 McPherson Drive, Beverly. There are two age categories, 12 to 15 (playing earlier) and 16 to 19. Register teams by e-mail at big3tournament@gmail.com. In-person registration will also be accepted at the McPherson Center from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. ¬
