To Ipswich, with love
William Sargent, a science and nature author from Ipswich, will read from his children's book "Lily and Minot, The Story of a Princess Who Falls in Love With a Bull," which is set in Ipswich and dedicated to the town on its 375th birthday. The event is at the Ipswich Public Library, 25 N. Main St., on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Sargent jointly wrote and illustrated this story with his wife, Kristina. Admission is free. Call 978-356-6648.
Avast, ye mateys, it's Halloween!
Pirates will be on deck at "Tricks, Treats and Treasures," a show by the Salem Pirates, led by Ken Harris, at the Phillips House on Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 34 Chestnut St., Salem. All young trick-or-treaters are welcome. Little pirates can collect gold coin candies, listen to sea chanteys and pirate tales, and learn about the Phillips family. Donate for Allie
Marblehead schools are hosting a blood drive on Wednesday in memory of Allie Castner, a Marblehead student who died in August after being struck by a car. The drive will be held at Marblehead High School from 3 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to honor Allie's memory by donating blood for patients in need.
