Dandelion
Hannah O'Flynn of Ipswich
Inspired by the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll 'Twas spring, and the imperious weeds Did creep and crawl in the grass: All worried were the seeds, And the beautiful floral mass. Beware the Dandelion, my son! The roots that choke, the florets that spread! Beware the crow bird and shun The clover Bed! He took his mower key in hand: Long time the prickly foe he sought -- So rested he by the Cherry tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in herbicidal thought he stood, The Dandelion, with the petals of flame, Came bursting through the quiet neighborhood, And dispersed as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The mower blade went wackity-wack! He left it dead, and with its head He went driving back. And hast thou slain the Dandelion? Come to my arms, my country boy! O verdant day! Finally! Hurray! He bloomed in his joy. 'Twas spring, and the imperious weeds Did creep and crawl in the grass: All worried were the seeds, And the beautiful floral mass.
