Looking Through

Ella Dorval Hall of Newbury

Now, because it's dark,

I can't see.

But, when I put my face

on the cold glass

and give myself a pig nose,

I can see out my window.

I may see the huge storage container

filled with unpacked furniture.

Or I may see our family car

buried in snow, waiting for our shovels.

I may hear the steady beat of the rain

against the roof.

Or I may hear the gentle flakes of the snow

landing on the crab apple tree.

I may even hear the strong wind

opening and closing the old garage door.

But sometimes,

when I put my face up close to the window,

I only see my plain old reflection

staring back at me.
