January 13, 2009 05:09 am BEVERLY — An Ipswich man will spend the next six months on pretrial probation to resolve charges that he flew into a rage and grabbed an employee's shirt at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Beverly. Guri Nako, 54, also allegedly showed up at the same branch months later, warning the employee, "Your (expletive) is mine in court" as the case was about to go to trial. Nako, of 2 Mt. Pleasant Ave., had charges of disorderly conduct and witness intimidation continued yesterday during a hearing in Salem District Court. The disposition, the result of what Nako's attorney called "extensive negotiations" with the district attorney's office, does not require Nako to admit any wrongdoing. Prosecutors alleged that Nako and his wife walked into the Registry branch on Cabot Street back on Dec. 13, 2007, looking to get a learner's permit for the woman, according to a police report. When an employee told them that the identification they presented wasn't adequate, Nako allegedly flew into a rage. When an employee asked them to leave, Nako grabbed the man's shirt, according to the report. Moments later, Nako went back inside, looking for the paperwork he had given employees. They told him to leave again. Nako, who is Albanian, yelled "Stupid Americans" and then was arrested, according to the report. In July, as the case was about to go to trial, Nako allegedly showed up outside the Registry and warned the 52-year-old employee about their upcoming court appearance, which led to a charge of witness intimidation. The only condition of his pretrial probation is that Nako stay at least 200 feet from the Beverly Registry branch.
