Northshore Ambulance, union to talk contract tonight

SALEM — Union leaders representing Northshore Ambulance workers are hoping to hammer out a contract deal with the company tonight.

Alice Riley-King, president of Teamsters Local 42, said yesterday that contract talks had stalled on about five issues, but she would not get more specific.

"We're hopeful that it will be worked out," she said.

Union members are scheduled to vote on the contract by secret ballot tomorrow evening at their Lynn headquarters, Riley-King said.

Northshore Ambulance, based in Salem, serves that city, as well as Peabody and Marblehead, as a 911 provider, according to its Web site. The ambulance service also works in 23 North Shore communities and employs 95 full-time workers, the Web site said.

Attempts to reach company owner Robert Dionne by press time were not successful.
