March 27, 2008 05:45 am SALEM — A big rig caused big problems for motorists along busy Route 107 yesterday, when the truck took down a power line and almost the utility pole. The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. when a tractor-trailer heading south passed by the intersection of Highland Avenue and Jackson Street and caught an electrical wire strung across the street. The electrical wire was knocked loose and hung low to the ground because of the passing truck and blocked traffic. A utility pole was also knocked loose and lay tilted toward the street. Police detoured inbound and outbound traffic onto Jackson Street until about 6:30 p.m. while crews from National Grid were on scene making repairs. The tractor-trailer never stopped, and a witness was not sure of the license plate information.
