SALEM — A Salem man has been indicted on charges that he raped two young women during a one-week period last summer.
Joseph Elliott, 56, of 47 School St. is facing four counts of rape and three counts of indecent assault and battery in indictments handed up late Wednesday by an Essex County grand jury.
The incidents occurred between July 31 and Aug. 7 in Salem, Beverly and Lynn, according to the indictments.
One victim was sexually assaulted in Salem and Beverly on July 31 and again on Aug. 7, according to the indictments. A second victim reported a sexual assault in Lynn on Aug. 4.
Elliott has not been arrested. Prosecutors instead took their case directly to the grand jury. Elliott will be summonsed to appear in court for arraignment on May 19.
Because grand jury proceedings are secret, additional information about the case was not available yesterday. Details of the case could emerge during Elliott's arraignment.
Elliott was featured in The Salem News on Monday in a story about his participation in a "cowboy action shooting event" at the Danvers Fish and Game Club in Middleton. Elliott is a Wild West shooter who goes by the name "Calvary Kid."
