SALEM — The Foundation for Salem Public Education doled out nearly $37,000 in grants last week to fund innovative projects at all the city's schools.
The grants, awarded to 65 teachers, will fund everything from computer software to kite-making projects. The group raises money, largely through an annual auction, to fund programs that cannot be supported in the regular school budget.
"I am very appreciative of having the opportunity of doing very creative work with the students," said Jennifer Tolar, a graphic design teacher at Salem High School who got $750 for a Salem travel poster project.
Jesse Stansfield, a photography teacher at the high school, got a $745 grant for a Camera Obscura project.
"I am excited for the kids. I am excited for the project that is going to be completed with the money that was given," she said.
