IPSWICH — The Trustees of Reservations will open the trails at Appleton Farms once again for the seventh edition of the Ipswich Rotary's 5K and Family Fun Day.
The race route — although you don't have to race — follows some of the trails on the oldest working farm in America, as well as scenic vistas along the Ipswich River.
Activities begin Saturday, June 27, at 9 a.m. at the Essex County Greenbelt property on Waldingfield Road in Ipswich, when runners register to walk, run or jog the 5K route. The race gun fires at 10 a.m., and at 10:30, a kids run begins at the family fun area at the farm.
A variety of activities will be offered for kids, including a moonwalk, balloons, three-legged races and more. The Rotary will be serving hot dogs and Mercury Brewing soda. Coffee and doughnuts will also be available.
Cash prizes will be awarded to race winners and all kids who finish the kids run.
Registration is $15 at www.ipswichrotary.com, which also has a complete list of the day's activities. The first 200 registrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
The Family Fun Day runs from 8:45 a.m. to noon.
Proceeds benefit local high school scholarships, the Lend-A-Hand program for senior assistance and several other Rotary programs.
