The Friendly Garden Club of Beverly has announced the winners of its annual Best of Beverly 2008 contest.
The club reports that it was delighted with the level of participation in the Garden City, which made the task for this year's judges all the more difficult. The Volunteers of St. John's Church Thrift Shop in Peabody report that the store will close today, July 4, for summer vacation and will reopen on July 24.
During the break, The Volunteers are looking forward to two special social events. One event will celebrate the birthday of volunteer Charles Broughton. The second event will be the annual thank-you party and celebration of five years of successful shop operation, to be held at the home of President Jane Harris.
All proceeds from the thrift shop go to St. John's Church. Along with ongoing help to needy families, assistance was also recently given to one of the victims of the Peabody fire.
The Volunteers thank Donald Harris for hanging new racks in the shop, giving it a neater, more organized appearance.
