Synagogue hosts 'Hotdog Shabbat'

PEABODY — Organizers of Temple Ner Tamid's Hotdog Shabbat understand that if you feed them, they will come.

The Lowell Street synagogue is hosting its fourth annual Hotdog Shabbat tonight. The program starts at 5:45 p.m. with prayer and music followed by the dinner, which also offers veggie burgers, potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad and drinks.

"The idea is to celebrate together as a community," organizer Michelle Harris said.

An interactive family service, with music provided by Cheryl Miller and Rich Sokolow, will follow the meal.

Harris said the event is a nice way for families new to the community to meet the congregation.

"It's a great opportunity to come check us out," she said.

Those who can't make the hot dog version can attend the Pizza Shabbat on Aug. 7 or the Hamburger Shabbat on Aug. 21.
