July 11, 2009 05:45 am IPSWICH — A local man remained in critical condition yesterday at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston following a crash on Topsfield Road shortly after midnight Thursday. Alexander C. Howe, 24, of 29 Hodgkins Drive was thrown from the 1996 Volkswagen sedan he was driving when he crashed into a tree, police said. The car then hit a truck parked in a driveway and hit a garage. Police said the man was not wearing his seat belt and that speed was one of the causes of the crash. Responders found Howe unconscious, and an ambulance took him to Beverly Hospital and then to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. A hospital spokesman listed his condition as critical at 5:30 p.m. yesterday.
