DANVERS — Michaels, the nationwide arts and crafts retailer, will open its newest store at the Liberty Tree Mall on Sunday.
The store is in the space once occupied by the computer store CompUSA.
From noon to 4 p.m., the store will host a grand opening party in the parking lot. The party will feature a balloon artist, face-painter, kids craft station and a prize wheel.
"We've heard from our community for several months now and know they are eager for the store to be open," said store district manager Brett Ramsdell in a press release. "We're glad to welcome everyone in with lots of grand opening fun."
The Danvers Police and Fire departments will also take part in the celebration. The Police Department will have a bicycle safety booth set up and will be giving away 20 free bicycle helmets, as well as child fingerprint kits.
The Fire Department will bring along Freddie the Fire Truck Robot and will staff a fire and car safety booth.
The celebration will continue throughout next week with various savings and in-store demonstrations, and it will all be capped off by the Make-It-Take-It event. Customers can partake in 10 projects, including custom frame making and cake decorating, and whatever they make, they can take home.
Customers can register through Saturday, July 26, to have a chance to win a craft machine, a $100 Michaels gift card or one of four $50 Michaels gift cards.
