Police respond to widespread graffiti (with map)

By Bruno Matarazzo Jr.
Staff writer

SALEM — Police are investigating almost 20 cases of graffiti, or "tagging," discovered within a 24-hour span near the downtown area.

Many of the tagging incidents reported Monday night and yesterday appear to be related by similar monikers created with red paint in buildings and vehicles across the Point neighborhood.

There were other monikers reported on Lafayette Street, Canal Street and Ropes Street.

The cases are under investigation by Sgt. Harry Rocheville and Patrolman Dennis King of the Police Department's Community Impact Unit.
