Family fun's on tap for Operation Troop Support cookout

Operation Troop Support will hold a cookout at Godzik's Farm in Danvers on Sunday, July 27, from noon to 6 p.m. OTS will supply the meats and the drinks.

Guests are asked to bring a salad or dessert and chips and dips. There will be canopies, so come rain or shine and bring your bathing suits if the day is hot. Children welcome. For more information and to RSVP, e-mail Dick Moody at dick.moody@gmail.com.

The North Shore Frogmen's Club will meet at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club, 134 McKay St., for a program on Stellwagen Bank. Matthew Lawrence, a maritime archaeologist with the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, will discuss the draft management plan for the area, for which public comment is invited until Aug. 4. Tickets for the Peabody Golden Age Club summer party must be purchased no later than July 30. The party will be held at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Elks Club on Oak Street. For tickets, call Betty Quinlan at 978-531-5473.

The club meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month at the Elks Club. Anyone age 60 and over is invited to attend a meeting and join the club.

Circle the date of Aug. 14 and plan to join the Peabody Emblem Club No. 2 at a special Embola (giant raffle). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Peabody/Lynn Elks Hall, 40 Oak St., Peabody . There will be door prizes, raffles, refreshments and more. The public is invited to join the fun.

In other news, the Emblem Club held an essay contest for sixth-graders at Higgins Middle School, winning essays on American Pioneers in History were presented bonds and gifts by Phyllis Voit, the club's Americanism chairwoman.

Winners were Peter Curewitz, Brandon Butcher, Annie Pollack, Mikayla McCormick, Melissa Matarazzo, Tim Walsh, Seth Brown, Nathan Curewitz, Erika Patnaude, Nicole Cambria and Nicole Collyer.
