Woman, 66, hit by car while crossing Cabot Street

A 66-year-old woman was run over and dragged by a Dodge Ram pickup truck this morning as she was crossing the street on the crosswalk directly in front of the police station.

Geraldine Meguyer, 66, of 117 Water St., was brought by ambulance to Beverly Hospital and then flown to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Beverly Police Sgt. Joe Sharis, the officer in charge, said the victim was conscious, but he did not know the extent of her injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, Richard Little, 54, of 280 Hale St., will be cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Sharis said. His truck has been impounded as potential crime scene evidence, and the Registry of Motor Vehicles has been sent a form indicating that Little is considered an immediate threat on the road.

Little has been involved in two similar accidents since 2000, Sharis said, and further action may be taken against him.

A number of witnesses said Little drove over the woman, then dragged her, her body twisted under the rear wheel of the vehicle, Sharis said.

Little was heading north on Cabot Street, and the woman was crossing on the crosswalk in front of the police station, heading toward Wallis Street. Four skid marks from each tire start about seven feet before the crosswalk, and continue onto the crosswalk. The truck came to a stop about seven feet after the crosswalk.
