Mayor asks residents to prepare for Hanna

PEABODY — Gustav took aim at the South. Hanna has her eye on the Northeast.

The latest hurricane threat prompted Mayor Michael Bonfanti to remind residents to "be prepared."

"What we try to do is put out the information to people," he said.

The city's Web site yesterday bore the mayor's advice and a link to the state's hurricane preparedness information.

Bonfanti said much of the detail is common sense, remembering to clear gutters and bring in hanging plants and outdoor tables and chairs.

It's the same sort of work public service employees will do on a larger scale around the city.

"We've already had the guys out," Bonfanti said. "Every time it rains, they're out."

The mayor asked residents to do their part, like ensuring they don't let large items block city sewer grates.

"The city can't do it alone," he said.
