DANVERS — An employee of the Sheraton Ferncroft hotel in Danvers has been arrested on child pornography and illegal drug charges, after police set up a sting in a hotel room.

Clarence Newcomb, 40, of Manchester, N.H., was arraigned today in Salem District Court on seven counts related to child pornorgraphy and illegal drugs.

Newcomb came to the attention of police about a year ago through a confidential informant, but the case was not pursued immediately because he moved to Florida. When he returned here, undercover police set up a series of drug buys and, this past weekend, arranged for an undercover officer to purchase child pornography from him.

Police said he was selling pornographic images of children as young as 4 years old.

Newcomb was the service manager at the hotel and was using his hotel-issued cell phone to conduct some of his illegal activities, police said.

He was also charged with selling methamphetamines.

He is being held on $200,000 cash bail.
