Police issue citations to substandard taxis

By Cate Lecuyer
staff writer

BEVERLY — Police cited two taxi cabs and one operator during recent safety inspections of the city's two companies.

At City Taxi of Beverly, which owns seven of the city's eight cabs, one car had an expired inspection sticker, and another one had a bald tire. A driver was also cited for operating with a suspended driver's license. Cab Express, which owns one taxi, had no violations.

"The Beverly Police Department is committed to promoting safety in the community," said department spokesman John McCarthy.

"The traffic department will conduct routine and random inspections of the city's taxi cabs to assure that all are operating appropriately and safely."
