MIDDLETON — A week after closing its only Middleton restaurant, McDonald's Corp. still doesn't know what it will do in the town.
Glen Gracier, a spokesman for McDonald's based in Boston, said yesterday that the company was reviewing a full slate of options including reopening, renovating, rebuilding or keeping closed the restaurant at 255 S. Main St.
"They're looking to become more contemporary with the restaurants all throughout the region, so they're remodeling restaurants throughout the entire area," he said.
Middleton's building and health inspectors said they had no role in the closing of the restaurant. Building Inspector Rick Bienvenue said no applications have been filed with the town, but the company had told him it would either renovate the existing building or replace it. Bienvenue said the building used to house a Burger King.
In a statement, Michael Kuronen, a regional development director of McDonald's, said that the burger giant was weighing its options, and that employees of the Middleton store were invited to transfer to other local McDonald's restaurants.
Gracier didn't know how many employees took the transfers. The popular Middleton location, on Route 114, is owned by the company rather than a franchisee. In all, McDonald's has about 30,000 locations, with about 14,000 in the United States.
