October 15, 2008 05:33 am PEABODY — Go for the food. Stay for the fun at St. Vasilios' Greek Festival this weekend. The annual celebration will feature savory Greek dishes like chicken and pork souvlaki or shish kebab, as well as sweets like loukoumades, a fried dough confection flavored with clove and cinnamon and drizzled with a honey syrup. As for fun, festival organizers splurged with added space for children's games, contests and small amusement rides. Adults can look forward to Greek bands, disc jockeys and folk dancers. The festival also has 15 vendors lined up to sell their wares during the event. "The committee has been working very hard over the last four months preparing for the festival," President Speros Venios said. Organizers are also offering a $2 meal discount Sunday to seniors. "We felt this would be a great way to encourage seniors to attend the festival and enjoy the foods and Greek folk dancing on Sunday," said festival chairman Paul Foukas in a press release. "The greater the community participation, the greater the success of the event." The festival will take place on Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
