'Knight and Day' lands in Danvers

DANVERS — The hubbub in the cornfields of Dayton Street near the Middleton line is due to the production of the Hollywood action-comedy "Knight and Day," starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

It's a film project formerly known as "Wichita."

Residents who live near the site received a notice that Twentieth Century Fox would be filming in the area of Gregory and Dayton streets at the intersection of Middleton Road on the Danvers/Middleton line.

The production would involve the closure of a small section of Gregory Street, Hathorne Avenue, Dayton Street and Middleton Road on both sides of Gregory Street, the notice said.

Residents were told filming would take place today and tomorrow between 3 p.m. and 6 a.m., but there was activity at the site yesterday.

During filming, the road will be closed to cut-through traffic, but residents will still have access. The notice also said residents should expect scenes to be filmed from a helicopter, and producers apologized in advance for the noise.

"There is something going on there, yes," police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt said. "I know they are filming, they have hired some detail officers up there."

The film's location manager did not return a phone call seeking comment yesterday.
