'Star Wars Jedi Training' included in winter rec programs
PEABODY — The "force" will be with children who sign up for the Recreation Department's first Star Wars Jedi Training Workshop.
Registration for the three-hour workshop and dozens of other winter programs and activities started this week. The department's 16-page program brochure is available online through the city's Web site.
Recreation Program Supervisor Jennifer Davis said she wanted to offer something different when she picked the Jedi Training for 5- to 10-year-olds.
"I thought this would be exciting and fun and actually something different," she said.
Another new feature this winter is a Family Winter Hike at Brooksby Farm on Jan. 29 for $5 per person. Hosted by Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Randy Weld, the two-hour hike includes snow shoe rentals and ends with hot cocoa around a campfire.
"Get the family out and go hiking," Davis said.
Indoor Rock Climbing Center MetroRock in Newburyport will host an open house tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. for those interested in joining the Peabody Climbing Team through the Recreation Department. Practice begins Nov. 10.
