Veterans Day ceremony set for Wednesday

BEVERLY — The city's annual Veterans Day program will be short and sweet next week. If the last few years are any indication, it will also be well-attended.

Beverly Veterans' Agent Jerry Guilebbe said he expects 200 to 300 people to attend this year's program, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Veterans Day, at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial at Odell Park.

Guilebbe said the program, which lasts only about 15 minutes, has been well-attended in recent years.

"We've had 200 or 300 people, which is fantastic," he said. "More people have been showing up at Veterans Day than Memorial Day. The reason is that Veterans Day is held on Veterans Day — in the middle of the week, not part of a long weekend in the summer season."

This year's program will include local veterans organizations, Scouts and city officials. It will take place at Veterans Memorial at Odell Park, which is on Rantoul Street between the post office and the train station.

Guilebbe said there are three Beverly residents that he knows of who are currently serving overseas in the military. Anyone who knows of any other Beverly residents serving overseas is urged to call Guilebbe at 978-921-6018 so he can send a care package through the Beverly Cares program.
