IPSWICH — The two-alarm fire on Great Neck on Thursday night has been ruled accidental, although no cause has been determined.
Fire Lt. Andy Theriault said yesterday that the blaze at 27 Bayview Road started on the first floor in what appeared to be a living area. No one was injured in the fire.
The two-story Colonial, owned by Annmarie Hughes, has been deemed uninhabitable, he said. The home is valued at $227,900, according to town assessor records.
Theriault said the house was heavily damaged, and it was too hard to say if any of it could be spared from demolition.
He praised firefighters for their swift work knocking down the fire.
"They had to deal with the wind throwing a lot of firebrands, embers, in the air," Theriault said. "The guys did a great job."
The lieutenant said he could not be sure when the investigation by the Ipswich Fire Department and the state fire marshal's office would be complete.
