Elderly Ipswich man found after brief search

IPSWICH — Police from Ipswich, Hamilton and Rowley, along with Ipswich firefighters and state police canine units, turned out to search early yesterday after an 86-year-old man was reported missing.

Police were called to a home on Upper River Road home at 1:08 a.m. yesterday after the man's wife realized he had not returned to bed after getting up. Police said the man is believed to have early stage dementia.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., the man was found walking along County Road, a half-mile from his home. He appeared in good condition, cold but with no injuries. Action Ambulance transported him to Beverly Hospital for evaluation, and he was later released.
