SALEM — Police arrested a 29-year-old man on an attempted-murder charge on Friday, following a fight with his girlfriend.
The fight happened Thanksgiving morning when the victim told police her boyfriend, Jarod S. Dennis of 11 Lemon St., Salem, punched her in the face as she was holding their 19-month-old son.
The attempted-murder charge stemmed from Dennis choking her, according to police.
The victim said she did not know if she lost consciousness, but felt dizzy afterward.
After more punches, the victim tried to call police but Dennis ripped the phone out of the wall, the police report said.
Their eldest child then ran out of the house and went to a neighbor's house to call police.
Dennis left the scene with his youngest son, but hours later dropped off the child and ran off.
He was arrested a day later at his home.
In addition to the attempted-murder charge, police also charged Dennis with witness intimidation, driving with a suspended license and two counts of domestic assault and battery.
