To the editor:

I would like to thank The Salem News for your coverage of the extraordinary work going on by the community in the Gloucester Crossing neighborhood in Beverly.

On June 6 a community barbecue was held sponsored by the Gloucester Crossing Resource Group, the Beverly Police Department and the residents of the neighborhood.

On behalf of the Resource Group, a collaborative of more than a dozen agencies in Beverly, I would like to extend a special thank-you to the Police Department for doing an incredible amount of cooking; Walgreen's for funding a grant to the Police Department, which allowed them to purchase all of the food; the Beverly Childrens' Learning Center, for setting up a face-painting booth; the Beverly Recreation Department, for setting up a water slide that provided hours of fun for the children; and the countless others who volunteered their time to make this event a success.

As we move forward with our plans to redevelop 12 properties in the neighborhood, we are extremely grateful to each and every community member and agency already working hard to make a difference in the community.
