Yesterday, the Crusaders showed they are capable of erasing deficits on the way to victory. Senior captain Casey Otovic rolled around the cage after a restart and scored the game-winner — her only tally of the afternoon — with 25 seconds left as Fenwick improved to 10-0 with 10-9 win over Austin Prep. Amelia Santos scored three goals, and Ellen O'Leary and Mary Kelleher had two apiece to help the Crusaders eliminate Austin Prep's three-goal advantage in the second half. "They kept their heads and really battled to get the lead back," Bishop Fenwick coach Karen Guillemette said. "Our (10-0) start is great. It's a little bit of a surprise, but we've been playing together as a team." Ali Stote had one goal and one assist and Rebecca Graves added one goal for Fenwick, which got 12 saves from goalie Jill Defrancesco. Masconomet 20, Hamilton-Wenham 13 Kathleen Ragan scored five goals and had three assists and Brittany Fraser contributed five goals and two assists to power another dominant offensive game for the Chieftains. Maura Brazel scored three goals and dished out four assists, Heather Fraser had three goals and three assists, and Madeline Hardy pitched in three goals and one assist. Sidney Godett had one goal and one assist and Blaire Shrewsbury had one helper for Masco (9-1). Sophomore goalie Mckenzie Morris stopped 24 shots for the Chieftains. Pingree 18, Dana Hall 9 Brit Mscisz scored a career-high six goals and added two assists to help Pingree win at home. Haley Thompson had three goals and one assist, Sam Taylor had two goals and two assists, and Michaela Colbert scored three times for the Highlanders (7-4). Courtney Collier scored two goals for Pingree, and Kaitlin Reedy and Lyndsey Shepard had one goal apiece, while Lindsay Thompson finished with two assists. Caitlin Doherty also played well defensively for Pingree. BOYS LACROSSE Danvers 12, Salem 10 Attackman Jay Sabino scored a game-high four goals and added two assists as the Falcons (4-6) won at home. Fellow senior Steve Kontos added a hat trick and one goal, Mike Parisella scored twice and assisted on another, while Steve Deroche, Ryan Burge and Brandon Kelley had single goals. Goaltender T.J. Ingraham had an assist en route to earning the win. Marblehead 11, Gloucester 4 Eric Fader scored three goals and handed out two assists and Will Beringer notched three goals as Marblehead moved to 5-4. Tucker Cohen (2 goals, 1 assist), Nick Tobin (2 goals), and Aaron Reny (1 goal) also played well for the Magicians. Peabody 14, Westford Academy 5 The Tanners scored nine unanswered goals in the second half to turn what was a one-goal game into a blowout. Derek West scored five goals and dished out two assists, while Mike Martin and Billy Daly each had three goals and two assists. Mike Pennachio, Marc D'Addario, and Luke Moran also scored goals for Peabody (7-2), while Nick Mauris played well defensively. Austin Prep 5, Bishop Fenwick 3 Bishop Fenwick jumped out to a surprising 2-0 lead on its first two possessions, but couldn't hold off the powerful undefeated Catholic Central League leader, which led just 3-2 at halftime. Greg Forrest had 31 saves in the Fenwick net and Eamon Barrett, Brandon Ballard and Pat Doliber supplied the goals for the Crusaders (2-5, 5-8 overall). Beverly 5, Saugus 4 Junior Dave Chesney collected three goals and junior Ryan Nolan was 2 and 1 as the Panthers evened their overall record to 6-6. Chris Bushey was outstanding on defense and Joe Reinhold picked up two assists. Peabody 9. Medford 8 Tanners' coach Dennis Desrochers said his Tanners (6-3 overall) were emotionally and physically drained from an exhausting win over Beverly, but managed enough zip to pull his one out, thanks to Leanne Broughton, who scored a pair of goals and notched an assist late in the second half, including the game winner with three minutes left. Brianna Costa, the Peabody goalie, made 13 saves, including two game-savers at the end. Carroll Connors was 3 and 1, Amanda Lowry 2 and 1, Jessica Leslie 1 and 1 and Brittany Lefave had a goal. The Tanners entertain Marblehead in a major test Monday at 4. BOYS TENNIS Swampscott 5, Lynn English 0 Alex Hanbury (6-2, 6-3), Josh Ruskin (6-2, 6-1), and Brandon Poulin (7-5, 6-1) each won at singles to help the Big Blue close out a busy week. Swampscott (8-1 overall, 7-0 NEC), which won four matches this week, also swept doubles behind Sam Andler and Chris Kalpin at No. 1 (6-0, 6-0) and Scott Leffler and Nick Watson at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0). Concord Academy 3, Pingree 2 Just days after defeating Concord Academy, Pingree dropped its first match of the season at the hands of Concord. Garret Lane (No. 1, 6-2, 6-1) and Sam Bachelder (No. 2, 6-0, 6-0) each won to remain unbeaten for the season. Pingree slipped to 5-1. Hamilton-Wenham 3, North Andover 1 Despite missing three starters, the Generals remained unbeaten (5-0) by taking three of the four matches that were completed. Charlie Graves won at second singles (6-1, 6-3), as did Nick Petrou at No. 3 (6-3, 6-0). The first doubles team of Ian McCracken/Chris Roy (6-4, 6-4) sealed the victory. Gloucester 4, Salem 1 Spencer Gaston (6-0, 6-1) and Chris Lufkin (7-5, 6-3) led the Fishermen (2-4) to their second victory. Juan Carasco and Jared Vengren salvaged a point for the Witches (1-8) in doubles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Salem coach Keith Comeau also cited Andy Cobrera, who lost 7-6 (after a 13-10 tiebreaker), 6-3. Ipswich 5, Triton 0 The Tigers had a winning week after blanking Triton to make it two out of three matches. Leading the way wee Matt Burke, 6-21, 6-1; Nate Brown, 6-1, 6-2 for a 5-2 record on the season; Mike Krathwohl, 6-1, 6-2; Sebastian Natpoort-Scott Furman, 6-4, 6-3; Joe Governdiren-Ty Zampitella, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. GIRLS TENNIS Hamilton-Wenham 3, North Andover 2 All three singles players prevailed for the Generals, who improved to 4-2. McKenzie Love (6-0, 6-0), Kate Chamberlin (6-2, 6-1) and Molly Hines (6-1, 6-0) all won handily. Triton 3, Ipswich 2 Jess Cote won at first singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Bridget Fay won at third singles, 6-2, 7-5, but the Tigers (2-6) couldn't scratch out another point. Pingree 3, Dana Hall 1 Veronica Corning (4-0) and Jen Mscisz (11-0) swept to easy victories, 6-1, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-4, respectively, and the Highlanders (11-0 overall) picked up their third point in doubles from Kari Shaugnessy and Morgan Bell, 6-0, 6-2. Elizabeth Depper, who is 10-0, was ahead in No. 3 singles, 6-2, when the rain came, making it incomplete. Austin Prep 4, Bishop Fenwick 1 Austin Prep (6-2) had too much depth, but had no answer for Fenwick sophomore Lizzy Trainor, who ran her record to 8-1 with a 6-2,6-2 victory. BASEBALL Gloucester 3, Salem 2 For the second straight game, Salem cut into a deficit late in the game only to strand the tying run. After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, Salem scored two runs in the sixth when the Fishermen balked one run in and another scored on a groundout. Salem left the tying run on second base, however. Justin Williams pitched well for the Witches (6-4), scattering seven hits over seven innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out six. Peabody 11, Marblehead 3 Junior righthander Chris Gaudet won his first high school start giving up five hits, two runs, one walk and had six strikeouts in five innings as the Tanners (8-3 league, 6-2 NEC) spotted the Magicians a 2-0 for three frames and then scored 11 unanswered runs. Brian Latorella finished up. Josh Band was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run, James Noftle was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, Pat Yeo slapped a two-run double and Gary Girolamo was 2 for 5 with a run and a stolen base for the Tanners. Pingree 3, Noble & Greenough 1 Lamarre Rey and Jolmi Minaya split the pitching duties and dominated in Pingree's win. Rey allowed one hit and no runs through three innings, while Minaya picked up the win by allowing one run on two hits. Jesse Sullivan had two hits and an RBI and Dillon Vassallo and Pat George also drove in runs for the Highlanders (9-2), who have won four straight. Bishop Fenwick 5, Marian 3 Winners of three straight, the Crusaders (5-6) climbed back to within a game of .500 as junior righty Andrew Guido threw a complete game. His brother, Nick Guido, sparked the offense with two hits, a run and an RBI, while second baseman Dave Ruggerio and outfielder Pat Holleran were defensive standouts. North Shore Tech 9, Mystic Valley 3 Making his first start of the spring, junior Joel D'Ambrosio took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, striking out five in six innings to pick up the win. Zack Newman (2-for-4, run, RBI), Shane Bennett (2 hits, including a 2-run double) and J.J. Navas (2-for-3, three RBIs) led Tech offensively. Ben Dora also had a fine game defensively in center field for the Bulldogs (6-4). Masconomet 5, Pentucket 3 James Riordan got his third win of the season by allowing three runs over five innings and Evan Bunker pitched the final two innings to record the save. The same duo powered the Chieftain offense with Riordan registering three hits and an RBI, and Bunker hitting two doubles and driving in a pair. Masco improved to 10-0. SOFTBALL Danvers 7, Beverly 4 The Falcons (7-3, 6-2 NEC) were led offensively by first baseman Caraline Moholland, who went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to center field. She also scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs. Jill Carroll was 3-for-4 with a run and two ribbies while Ashley Burnham was also 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored. Senior second baseman and captain Beth Cullen ripped a two-run triple for the Panthers (2-5). For the day, Cullen was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Senior left fielder Christy Nichols added three hits, scored once and knocked in another. Ipswich 7, Triton 0 The Tigers (8-1) earned their third shutout of the spring as ace Kerry Desmond allowed just three hits and one walk while fanning 10. The hosts broke it open with six runs in the bottom of the sixth as Kelly Michael and Emily Bouvier each had two-run singles. Junior Courtney Rosales contributed two runs scored as well as an RBI single. Pingree 18, Dana Hall 3 The Highlanders' bats exploded, producing 15 hits and a bevy of offensive stars on this day. Kaisy Rosario was 3-for-3 with four runs scored while Britney McNeilly, the winning pitcher, helped herself with three hits and three RBIs. Grace Steward (2 hits, 2 RBIs) and Jaimie Cappucci (3 hits, RBI) also had big games at the plate. Cardinal Spellman 13, Bishop Fenwick 1 The visitors (10-1) spoiled a pregame ceremony in which the Lady Crusader captains, Courtney Ramunno and Jen Comeau hung a banner in memory of Jack Tierney (father of Fenwick AD Bob Tierney) on the centerfield fence. Fenwick could manage only hits by sisters Courtney and Alyssa Begin. It was 9-1 after two innings. Christina Cipriani's ground out scored Fenwick's only run in the first inning. COLLEGE SOFTBALL Endicott 4, WNEC 1 (susp.) The top-seeded Gulls led in the fourth inning when rains stopped their Commonwealth Coast Conference playoff game; it will resume this morning at 9 a.m. Rachel Pearson blasted a two-run homer while Maria Mangine also knocked home a run. Sarah Spaziano later doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Nichols 5, Gordon 0 The Scots (14-23) saw their season come to an end in the playoff loss, striking out 10 times. Sophomore center fielder Kimberley Levinsky had the lone Gordon hit, a two-out single in the sixth.
