BOYS LACROSSE

Hamilton-Wenham 15, Danvers 7

Hamilton-Wenham made the cut for the state tournament yesterday with a solid 15-7 win over Danvers. But according to Generals coach Jimmy LaSelva, earning a spot in the postseason was not the primary motivation against the Falcons.

"It wasn't about qualifying today, it was about playing well," said LaSelva, whose team improved to 9-5. "We were coming off our best game of the year (Thursday) and it was an overtime loss (to North Andover). No way did I want to see a letdown against Danvers. I was comfortable with what I saw."

Ryan Gendreau, who has 38 goals and 15 assists this season, paced the Generals with four goals and two assists. Jake Cotter had three goals while Casey Colyer and Steve Dangora added two apiece. Charlie Pilkanis, Jay Allsopp, Ben Penta and Scottie McCulloch each had a goal.

Cushing Academy 9, Pingree 8

Jack Williamson scored three goals for Pingree, but the Highlanders lost in overtime. Cam Ecker added two goals while Adam Rimmer, Bobby Adam and Colin Rossano each had one goal. Goaltender Tim Weinstein made 14 saves. Pingree dropped to 8-6.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Endicott 5, St. John's Fisher 0

The Gulls (40-4) rolled into today's winner's bracket final of the NCAA Division 3 Eastern Regionals in Plattsburgh, N.Y. behind Danielle Sargent, whose second inning grand slam was all the offense her team would need.

The second-seeded Gulls got an RBI single from Sara Spaziano to score pitcher Maria Mangine with one out in the second for a 1-0 lead. Four batters later Sargent hit her slam, scoring Spaziano, Megan Downey and Paula McGinn ahead of her. Mangine threw a complete game five-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts for the win.
