BOSTON — Local athletes helped the East Coast Karate & Aerobics Fitness Center of Swampscott to several first and second place finishes in the recent World Martial Arts Federation Tournament at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Area students who fared well for East Coast Karate included Declan Brown, Alden Freddo, Nile Jones and Aliza, Ben and Craig Grant, all of Swampscott; Mary Panagopoulos and Renne Venico of Salem; Olivia and Jack Herman of Nahant; and Trang Le, Marquis Draper, Steven Grigoris, Matthew Hardiman and Alexander, Larissa and Timothy Bogomolev, all of Lynn.
"We've been competing in tournaments for over 25 years," said Master Lou Hopkins, owner of East Coast Karate, "and our students always give percent and never have come home empty handed — we're very proud of their performances."
East Coast Karate is a member of the World Martial Arts Federation, an organization of professional martial artists whose goal is to highlight the skills and diversity of the martial arts of today as a unified and coordinated collective.
