Sanford knocks off North Shore

Last night's showdown between the Sanford Mainers and North Shore Navigators was relocated from the Pine Tree State to Fraser Field at the last second because of poor field conditions.

The change of venue didn't discourage the Mainers, who rolled into town and blanked the Navs 5-0.

North Shore (15-8) was plagued by three errors and managed only four hits in being shut out for the third time this season.

The hits came from center fielder Tre Dennis, second baseman Patrick Brady, first baseman Ben Waldrip and Peabody native Kyle Multner, an outfielder.

Malden Catholic alum and UMass pitcher Jared Freni lasted four innings and gave up three runs with fanning five batters. The Navs never got their offense going to get back in the game. Jeff Tardiff allowed two more runs in relief before Chris Kowalski and Garrett Smith combined to get the last seven outs without incident.

North Shore, which has fallen to second place in the NECBL's Eastern Division, hosts the New Bedford Bay Sox tonight at 7 p.m.
