Area sports roundup: Sosa's two goals help Fenwick soccer roll

BOYS SOCCER

Bishop Fenwick 5, Archbishop Williams 0

Pablo Sosa got it done for the Crusaders (2-0) by scoring twice. Other goal scorers for Fenwick were Brandon Ballard, Phil Eagan and Andrew Dinuccio. The assists came from Doug Garabedian (2), Conor McCormack (2) and R.J. Vitolo.

Peabody 3, Lynn Classical 2

Seni Quoshja scored twice for the Tanners (3-0) and Jared Shields assisted on all three goals. Dominic Mondi added the other goal. In addition, Peabody got some fantastic defensive play out of Kieth Walsh, Chris Niahan, Greg Doonan and A.J. Grube.

Marblehead 2, Winthrop 0

The Magicians (3-0) pitched the shutout behind goaltender Kurt Grossman's second straight scoreless effort in goal. Freshman Mike Brennan scored on an assist from Nate Cullen and Jesse Lipkind scored unassisted from 40 yards out.

Danvers 4, Saugus 0

The Falcons (3-1) got two goals out of junior Chris Ciampa, a goal and assist from Tom Marini, a goal from Wesley Moreira, and an assist each from Benny Pasquariello and Eddie Bates.

S.J. Shrewsbury 2, St. John's Prep 1

Zack Hathaway notched the only Eagles' goal on a penalty kick with 1:30 remaining, but that was all the hosts could manage.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bp. Fenwick 2, Abp. Williams 2

Sophomore Kristin Vermette had both goals for the Crusaders (2-0-1), each coming in the second half. Laure Toye-O'Donnell added an assist.

Marblehead 2, Winthrop 0

The Magicians improved to 3-2 by getting goals from Lindsey Cohen and Mary Kerock and an assist from Lizzy Whitehill to shut out the Vikings.

Danvers 7, Saugus 1

The Falcons (4-0) put on a show with Corey Persson and Brittany Russo both scoring twice. The other goal scorers were Liz Burgess, Kathleen Landers and Shyla Bates. Assists came from Gabby Vega, Christie Kaczynski, Landers, Burgess (2), Russo and Persson.

Salem 5, Revere 1

Jasmine Bryant netted two goals for the Witches (3-2), while Jessica Ngo, Lauren Schaejbe and Melissa Ryan all added single scores. Meghan Wilkins, Desiree Deleon and Ngo had the assists.

Peabody 5, Lynn Classical 0

With two girls scoring their first career varsity goals (Angela Ellison and Taylor Provost) the Tanners improved to 4-0. Erika Digiacomo contributed two goals and an assist while Emily Scolaro also tallied. Emily Manoogian and Ellison had the other assists.

Swampscott 6, Gloucester 0

Big Blue goalie Tira Nimkar recorded her second shutout in a row to power the Big Blue to victory. The winners got goals from Jen Cleary (2), Rikki Langan, Marissa Gambale, Skylar Sabbag and Carley Hayes. The assists came from Mallory McDonough (2), Casey Connoly, Kelly Birchmore, Hayes and Langan.

Beverly 0, Lynn English 0

Kellie Shea was the bright spot for the Panthers (1-1-1) in their scoreless stalemate.

GOLF

Danvers 51 1/2, Saugus 20 1/2

Jay Rinaldi earned medalist honors by shooting a 2-over par 37 at Cedar Glen as the Falcons (5-2 overall) stayed unbeaten in NEC play at 4-0. Other winners for Danvers included Troy Thibodeau, Matt Michel, Mike Parisella, Matt Costanza, Pat Saunders, Kyle Larson and Steve Cleary.

Salem 53, Revere 19

The Witches had seven winners: Wes Koen (medalist with score of 38), Peter Cavallaro, Scott Sadoway, David Karam, Mike Doherty, Cameron Darmody, and Shane Ballou.

Peabody 53 1/2, Lynn Classical 18 1/2

The Tanners extended their unbeaten mark to 4-0 behind Sean Craven, Patrick Trainor, Greg Durant, Kyle Franey, Brian Latorella and Eric Kane, who all won their matches in impressive fashion.

Masconomet 163, Amesbury 106

Dan McQueen once again led the Cheiftains to victory with a score of 31,m shooting a 37. Mike Pollack-Twomey added 31 points and Alex Kane 30 as they both shot 38s.

Lynnfield 169, Hamilton-Wenham 142

The Generals fell to 0-3 with the loss. Top scorers for Hamilton-Wenham were Matt Zisson and David Rowe, who both scored a 26.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Danvers 18, Lynn Classical 45

The Falcons got the first and second spots from Chris Chapruit (19:04) and Kevin Powers (19:49) in the victory.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Danvers 15, Lynn Classical 50

Danvers took the top 13 spots in the easy win, with Christina Montefusco finishing first with a time of 21:59. Erin Baker (22:05) finished second and Astrid O'Connor (22:07) came in third.

FIELD HOCKEY

Ipswich 2, Rockport 1

Lauren Mazzola and Liz Glavin notched the goals for the Tigers (1-2-1) while Casey Leahy had the only assist.

Masconomet 1, Newburyport 1

Sophomore Pamela Herter converted a pass from senior captain Brittany Fraser to give the Chieftains (3-0-2) a first half lead, but it didn't hold up as host Newburyport tied things up in the second half.
