Slaven on the verge of setting record for most goals at St. Mike's
Andrea Slaven of Danvers is on the verge of etching her name into the St. Michael's (Vt.) College record books.
A senior forward and co-captain, Slaven is one goal away from becoming the Purple Knights' all-time leading goal scorer in field hockey history. She currently has 45 goals.
The Northeast-10 and ECAC Player of the Year as a junior, Slaven did not score last night as St. Mike's lost at Bentley, 2-1.
The former Bishop Fenwick star is currently tied with St. Mike's field hockey great Seanna Poelaert, who graduated in 2000, for most goals in a career.
Ironically, Poelaert was inducted into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame last Friday, one day before Slaven tied her for career goals by scoring three times in a 4-1 win over Assumption.
For the season, Slaven has seven goals and two assists for 16 points for the 6-4 Purple Knights, who are currently ranked seventh in the country among all NCAA Division 2 teams. She also leads the team in virtually every offensive category, including shots on goal, total points and game-winning goals (2).
With 102 career points, Slaven is also within reach of Poelaert's school record of 113 career points.
