FOOTBALL

Danvers Youth Football will be accepting donations of canned and dry goods during this weekend's home games to be given to the Danvers Food Pantry. In particular, canned vegetables, drinks for children (i. e., juice boxes) and Thanksgiving dinner items (i.e., cranberry sauce) will be gladly accepted. This thoughtful effort is being organized by John and Kim Kobierski. Please contact Kobierski directly at jkobierski@aol.com if you have any questions.

COACHING VACANCIES

Salem High is looking for a varsity head coach for its boys and girls track teams this winter. Contact Salem High Athletic Director Scott Connolly at Salem High, 77 Wilson Street, Salem, Mass., 01970.

GOLF

The Meadow at Peabody Golf Course now has discounted fall rates. Golfers can play 18 holes for $40, and nine holes for $20. Both fees include a cart.

Olde Salem Greens has reduced its prices for the month of November. Cost is now $13 per person for nine holes every day. The course also offers a two-person special of $36 for nine holes with a cart, all day every day.

Far Corner Golf Club will be hosting its Holloween scramble tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. The entry fee is $80 a person and includes a cart, food (cookout following), greens fee, and prizes. YOUTH SOCCER

The Peabody Youth Soccer Association will hold spring 2010 registrations at Higgins Field on Saturdays, Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Additionally, registrations will be held at Kennedy Field on Sundays Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. as well as Saturday Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fee for the U-8 members is $35 dollars, while the fee for the U-10 through U-18 teams will be $50 dollars. RUNNING

The Wild Turkey Race tune up clinic with instructor and certified USATF coach Mike Toomey will be held Thursdays, starting tonight through Nov. 26 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Salem Common. The fee is $60 for walkers and runners of all levels and just $50 for Wicked Running Club and North Shore Triathlon Club members. To sign up email dbollen@salem.com or call 978-744-0180.

Brenda's Bosom Buddies will be hosting a 5K road race on Sunday, Nov. 9, beginning at Champions Pub on Foster St. in Peabody. There will be a $20 entry fee due by Oct. 31 to help pay for Brenda Forsythe's medical bills. Post entry fees will be $22. CROSS COUNTRY

The Northeastern Conference middle school cross country invitational will take place today at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester. The girls middle school invitational will start a 4 p.m. and the boys middle school invitational will begin at 4:20 p.m. while the NEC boys championship will start at 4:40 p.m. and the NEC girls championship will begin at 5 p.m.
