For their efforts both in the classroom and in athletics, Masconomet football standout Chris Splinter and Lynn English soccer star Megan Forti have been named the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for October.

Chris, a senior captain on the Masconomet football team, is ranked 11th in a class of 374 and carries a 4.9 grade-point average on a 5.0 scale. He has earned an A in five Advanced Placement classes and is being recruited by Harvard, Dartmouth, Brown and Tufts among others.

A four-year starter on the football field, Chris is a quarterback and defensive back who has led the Chieftains to a 6-2 record as the team looks for their fourth straight Cape Ann League Large title. The dual threat has been an effective runner and passer for the Chieftains. So far this season, Chris has rushed for 555 yards and 10 TDs and thrown for 826 yards and another 10 TDs. He is completing 68 percent of his passes (71 for 104) and has also caught five passes for 145 yards. Defensively, he has intercepted three passes. Chris is also a three-year starter on the Masco baseball team.

Megan, a senior at Lynn English, is ranked No. 1 in her class of 397 and carries an outstanding grade-point average of 4.55. Megan has been No. 1 in her class since she arrived at the school as a freshman. She also studies French and Latin and is the President of her class.

A captain on the soccer team, Megan has 10 goals and eight assists on the year despite tearing her right and left ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) during her high school career. She also plays basketball and participates in track and field for the Bulldogs.
