Lynnfield overwhelms Ipswich in CAL battle

On a windy night at Ipswich High, the Tigers knew they would have to come out and play nearly mistake free against a talented Lynnfield team if they expected to unseat the first place team in the Cape Ann League Small

Though the Tigers kept it close, the end result was a 20-3 triumph for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers high-octane would come out and strike first, on a one yard touchdown run by quarterback by Gino Cohee. Later in the first quarter, the Tigers drove the ball down to the Lynnfield 13 yard line, but settled for a 30 yard field goal from kicker Ben Michael after the drive stalled.

Ipswich wouldn't manage to score again, as Lynnfield's stingy defense tightened up and kept the Tigers offense in check.

In the second quarter, Cohee utilized his legs again, this time from ten yards out to give the visitors a 14-3 lead, which would be the score at halftime. The only scoring in the second half came on a 30 yard strike from Cohee to Tyler Surette, who rounded out the scoring at 20-3.

Ipswich falls to 0-9 with the loss, and has now dropped 30 consecutive games. They will travel to Medford next Friday to try and break out of their slump, while Lynnfield improves to 8-1 on the year, and will play host to a visiting Hamilton-Wenham squad next Saturday.

gloucester 36, revere 14: Record breaking running back Conor Ressel needed only six carried to rack up 150 yards as the Fishermen (9-0, 4-0 NEC Large) rolled to their ninth straight victory. Ressel scored two TDs and Ali D'Angelo also found the end zone twice as Gloucester had 36 by halftime and was on cruise control after that. The Fishermen travel to Manning Field to face Lynn Classical, which is also unbeaten in the NEC Large, with a chance to clinch its third straight playoff berth next week.
