Peabody at Saugus Thanksgiving football preview

PEABODY (3-7) at SAUGUS (1-8)

at Stackpole Field, Saugus

10 a.m. start

All-time series record: Peabody leads, 37-25.

Peabody points scored per game: 12.7 (127 in 10 games)

Peabody points allowed per game: 25.9 (259 in 10 games)

Leading rusher: Mark D'Addario (999 yards, 9 TDs)

Leading passer: Mike O'Brien, (389 yards, 3 TDs)

Leading receiver: Jamal Abu-Hijleh (198 yards, 2 TDs)

Top points scorer: Mark D'Addario (56 points).

Under the radar player: Justin Provencher, senior linebacker, the heart of Peabody's defense.

Peabody will be in good shape if: D'Addario and the running game get going. They've got an experienced offensive line leading the way, so a healthy dose of D'Addario, QB keepers with Mike O'Brien and involvement from youngsters Nat Gaye and Brady Doyle is a recipe for victory.

Peabody will be in trouble if: It turns the ball over or fails to capitalize on scoring chances in the red area. Those problems — plus a propensity for giving up the big play — have haunted the Tanners all year.

Saugus points scored per game: 8.1 (73 in 9 games)

Saugus points allowed per game: 34.2 (308 in 9 games)

Leading rusher: John Moore

Leading passer: Justin Barrasso

Leading receiver: Anthony Guthro

Top points scorer: John Moore (44 points)

Under the radar player: Justin Barrasso. A ninth-grader who's been gaining tough yards all year, Barrasso wil be a lot more dangerous playing with John Moore rather than filling in for him at quarterback.

Saugus will be in good shape if: The game is close late. The Tanners have watched too many close games slip away over the last two years to not be behind the 8-ball if they don't carry an advantage into the final period.

Saugus will be in trouble if: It allows a bigger and deeper Peabody team to impose its will with overwhelming physicality. The Sachems must answer that bell early to make a game of it.
