A 5-2 loss to the North Adams SteepleCats, coupled with a Newport Gulls' 6-5 win over the New Bedford Bay Sox summoned the North Shore Navigators (16-9) to a first-place tie in the NECBL's Eastern Division, percentage points behind Newport (14-7).
Navigators starter Jim Schult gave up four earned runs (five total) on six hits in his five innings of work. First baseman Ben Waldrip directed the Navigators' offense, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
North Shore hosts Newport tonight at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field.
Babe Ruth 13s tournament
Highlighted by a three-run home run by catcher Frank Lowry, Peabody topped Saugus, 10-7, in the 13-year-old Babe Ruth District 1 tournament final in Beverly.
Starting pitcher Ryan McManus and reliever Andrew McLaughlin combined to pitch seven innings, while center fielder Eric Razney stood out on defense for Peabody, which moves on move on to the Babe Ruth state finals in Norwood.
