Tuesday's area roundup: Mello's big night offensively powers Beverly Recs


NORTH SHORE BASEBALL LEAGUE

Beverly Recs 7, Kingston 3: Matt Mello was a triple short of the cycle, belting a homer, double and single to finish with three RBI and help the Recs grab the win. Danny Mello had a hit and a run scored while Kevin O'Toole had three hits and Jared Shields collected two. Nick Colanto went the distance on the hill.

NECBL

North Shore 8, Lowell 3: Jason Banos and Tyler Kuehl each drove in two runs as the Navigators (20-12) stayed on top of the NECBL's East Division.

Ben Waldrip, Braxton Graven and Bryce Tafelski also had RBI while Jack Mayfield earned the win on the hill. Dan Duval also threw a scoreless inning for the Navs, who have won 20 of their last 26 games.

NORTH SHORE SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Beverly 68, Danvers 57: Zack Ziggelbaum, Evin Jones and Chris Keaton scored 11 points apiece to lead Beverly in a playoff game at the Plains Park outdoor courts in Danvers. Sean McGinn (19) and Nick Strangie (18) paced Danvers offensively.

Peabody 52, Gloucester 44: Peabody's Jon Byrne led all scorers with 14 points and Kyle Boyce added 11 in the win. Mike Tomaino had 10 points for Gloucester.

Manchester Essex 58, Hamilton-Wenham 35: Joe Mussachia (22 points) and Sean Nally (16) played strong offensively for Machester-Essex while Jake Lindland lead H-W with 11 points.

Melrose 54, Newburyport 39: Andy Scocca poured in 23 points to pace Melrose while Zach Fenton scored 15 points for Newburyport.

WORLD TEAMTENNIS

lobsters 25, buzz 9: Jumping over the .500 mark for the first time this season, the Boston Lobsters (7-6) went on the road and squashed the buzz in winning all five matches. Eric Butorac and Jan-Michael Gambill prevailed in men's doubles, 5-4, as did Coco Vandeweghe and Raquel Kops-Jones in women's doubles, 5-1. Jones and Butorac teamed up to prevail in mixed doubles, 5-2. In singles play, Vandeweghe won her match, 5-1, while Gambill completed the sweep in men's singles, 5-1.
