Bailey named Northeastern Conference co-MVP for football

Pat Bailey, the Beverly High senior tailback who finished this season with 1,498 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in just eight games while also leading the Panthers to their best season in eight years, was named co-MVP of the Northeastern Conference yesterday.

One of six Beverly players named to the NEC's all-star team, Bailey helped lead the Orange and Black to a 9-1 mark this fall, including wins in their last six contests. This marks the second straight season that the 5-foot-71/2, 160-pound Bailey has been named a league MVP; he was a co-Offensive MVP for the conference last season.

Bailey shared the MVP award with Winthrop senior quarterback James Fucillo, who led Winthrop to an unbeaten regular season (11-0), its second straight NEC championship and a berth in tonight's Division 2A semifinal playoff game against Masconomet.
