Age: 16
High school: Bishop Fenwick
Year in school: Junior
Sport: Skiing
When did you begin skiing?
I've been skiing for 13 years, starting when I was three. A bunch of my dad's cousins are ski instructors at Mount Cranmore in North Conway, N.H., and when my dad would go up skiing with them he'd take me with him. I loved it right away.
Did skiing come into play when you were deciding where to attend high school?
Definitely. I wanted to go to a school where I could ski, and Bishop Fenwick was a school that I knew offered it. We went to see the school and I really liked it, so made my choice easy.
How is the Fenwick ski team doing this year?
We're doing pretty well. We've got some new freshmen who are really good skiers and are really helping us. We're hoping to qualify for the state tournament (at the end of next month).
What's your best time this season in a race?
A little over 22 seconds.
What makes for a good or bad ski day?
We ski at Bradford (Ski Resort), and there are some days where the snow is really slow and soft, which obviously isn't good. It's good-skiing snow when it's cold out and the snow gets hard and packed down. That makes it easier to go downhill and get around the gates.
Where do you normally ski when not participating for Fenwick?
My family (dad Rick, mom Elrie and 14-year-old brother Zane) usually go to Mt. Cranmore.
Any place outside of New England you've ever skied?
When I was in the sixth grade we took a family vacation to Park City, Utah and skied at Alta Ski Resort and Snowbird. Cranmore is a mound compared to those mountains out there! The snow is so much better out West.
Do you participate in other sports?
Yes; I play field hockey, varsity lacrosse and ride horses.
How long have you been involved in equestrian?
I've been riding horses since I was three, too. I ride at Hightail Acres (in Newbury), and would like to continue riding (competitively) in college. Skiing, I think, I'd just like to do for fun after high school.
Where are you watching the Patriots/Giants Super Bowl game Sunday?
We're having a Super Bowl party at my house. My dad's brothers, my mom's sisters, my grandparents, our neighbors and friends - there'll be a lot of people there, all rooting for the Patriots.
COMING UP NEXT: Quarantiello and the Crusaders ski today at Bradford against Haverhill and Masconomet.
